Welcome to the kingdom of fungi
You are among the oldest and most fascinating creatures on our Earth. They connect forests with vast mycelial networks and form the basis for countless ecological cycles. The mushroom festival brings this hidden world to the table. You grow fruiting bodies, spread their spores, and, step by step, weave your own mycelial network.

In the video, the author J. J. Neville personally guides you through a game. To ensure his explanation sounds authentic in German, his voice was dubbed into German using AI. The product photos show the German edition.
Play and protect forests
Mushrooms keep our forests alive. They break down what has died, returning valuable nutrients to the soil so that new life can emerge. This natural cycle of decay and new beginnings is the central idea of Pilzfest.
With each game sold, five square metres of forest around the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site of Dürrenstein-Lassingtal will be removed from forestry use for 80 years. Nearby is also the Rothwald, one of Europe's last primeval forests, a unique refuge for flora, fauna, and fungi. Thus, every game becomes a small contribution to the protection of one of Central Europe's oldest forest ecosystems.

A race for space and resources
Pilzfest is a dynamic tactical game, where you build your own mushroom kingdom. You have six actions to choose from per turn. You can grow new mushrooms, spread spores, expand the board, or use the decay of your mushrooms to unlock special abilities.

Every decision changes the situation. Do you play offensively, steal opponents' spores and cut through their networks? Or do you build up calmly to secure the most points in the end? How you play is up to you, and that's exactly what makes every game different. The playing field also remains the same. A new landscape and nutrients emerge round by round from triangular tiles.

From Kickstarter success to the German edition
Pilzfest is the German-language edition of „Mycelia“, designed by J. J. Neville, who runs the independent publisher Split Stone Games on the south coast of England. The original English version was funded via Kickstarter in 2023 and is over 10,000 supporters worn. On BoardGameGeek, the world's largest board game platform, Mycelia holds a Rating of 7.4 from over 1,500 reviews. The translation is by Dr Wolfgang Hinterdobler, the scientific director of MyPilz.
